Hijikata Toshizo of the Shinsengumi shogunate police force in Kyoto loved the historic Higashiyama Onsen so much he would visit to bathe for medical purposes.
The onsen boasts an abundant supply of spring water that flows at a rate of 136.4 liters per minute from the source within the grounds.
